Safely Returning to the Workplace After COVID-19

Safely Returning to the Workplace After COVID-19

As the vaccine rollout continues and COVID-19 cases decline, organizations will need to plan for a safe return to the workplace. Most of the responsibility will fall upon management teams to navigate their workers through the transition back from remote working once government restrictions are lifted.

Consider the following when returning to the workplace after COVID-19:

  • Hygiene—Provide soap, water and disposable paper towels for both workers and customers to wash their hands. Encourage frequent and proper handwashing. Make hand sanitizer available and make sure high-traffic areas are cleaned and disinfected frequently.
  • Social distancing—Limit the number of workers in the office to ensure proper social distancing measures can be met. Post signage to remind workers to keep an appropriate distance from each other.
  • Sick leave—Encourage sick employees to stay home. Offer paid time off so employees don’t feel obligated to come to the office when they’re under the weather.
  • Flexible working—Consider allowing the workforce to have a flexible working arrangement. This flexibility can include a hybrid work model where employees split their workdays between in-person and remote work.

Health and safety should be at the top of management’s priorities as it considers how to bring operations back in person. By taking the time to identify and implement health and safety measures, organizations can ensure a safe return to the workplace after COVID-19.
