Edmonton Stingers and CMB Partner to Support Community and Empower Youth Through Basketball
We are proud and excited to announce that together with Finuity Wealth, CMB is a Partner of the Edmonton Stingers Basketball team for the 2023 season!
The Edmonton Stingers are part of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL), which was founded in 2017 and began play in 2019. The CEBL is “a league created by Canadians for Canadians with a mission to develop Canadian players, coaches, sports executives, and referees” [1]. The CEBL season runs from May through August, showcasing high-level basketball talent and providing an exhilarating experience for fans.
The Stingers have become an integral part of the local community. They have initiated various programs to enrich the lives of young basketball enthusiasts. Among these initiatives are Fresh Hoops, Fresh Nets, and Fresh Kicks. Through Fresh Hoops, the Stingers refurbish Edmonton Public School courts to provide safe and welcoming spaces for kids to play basketball. Fresh Nets involves replacing basketball nets in areas where they are worn out or missing, ensuring that children have functional equipment for their games. Fresh Kicks focuses on providing shoes and basketballs to kids in need so they have the necessary gear to participate in the sport they love [2].
The Stingers recently established the Stingers Foundation, a charitable organization with a mission to empower new Canadians and underserved youths through basketball and the power of sports. As part of their efforts, the Stingers Foundation has purchased 350 season tickets for each of the ten home games during the 2023 season. These tickets will be allocated to charitable organizations such as Kids Up Front and Boys & Girls Clubs Big Brothers Big Sisters (BGCBigs). This initiative provides kids who may not have the opportunity to attend live sporting events with an exciting experience, creating lasting memories and inspiring them through the magic of basketball [3].
